Feem doesn’t like lime

Descaling with vinegar and patience

Scaled shower heads and pipes, lime scale on taps and household appliances… We’ve all been confronted with that problem more than once. Lime is present in our tap water and lime scale is caused by hard water.

Feem Active Cleaner can be used for all purposes on all possible materials. In fact, the only thing it doesn’t do, is descale. In short: you don’t need much more than Feem Active Cleaner and an alternative to a descaling agent! But what’s the easiest way to remove lime scale?

You can do it with a huge supply of descaling products, but that’s definitely not the cheapest solution. Moreover, these products are hazardous to the environment. Instead, you should choose cleaning vinegar. It’s just as good and doesn’t damage your plumbing and household appliances. What’s more, it’s way better for the environment!

Shower heads
To avoid lime scale on shower heads, we recommend wiping it dry after using it. Unfortunately, you can’t always avoid lime scale, so you’ll sometimes have to descale the shower head. To do this, put the shower head in a bowl of cleaning vinegar and water. When you can’t unscrew it, just put it in a plastic bag with 2/3 of cleaning vinegar and 1/3 of lukewarm water and let it soak for the whole night. Rinse well afterwards and do this every month to prolong the life expectancy of your shower head.

Taps
If you can remove the tap, let it soak for a night in a bowl of cleaning vinegar. The next day, your tap will be fully descaled.

If you can’t remove it, soak a towel in vinegar and wrap it around the tap for a few hours. This will allow the vinegar to get to the lime.

Water boiler
A water boiler full of lime scale works more slowly and less efficiently. Just put some water and a little bit of cleaning vinegar in your water boiler to descale it. Let the water boiler boil this mixture twice and then rinse the inside.

Coffee maker
Your coffee maker should be cleaned regularly as well to make sure the appliance doesn’t get clogged because of lime scale. This is fairly easy and we recommend doing it at least once every month. Make sure there’s no filter and no coffee leftovers in it. Then, fill the appliance with water and a few teaspoons of cleaning vinegar. Let the mixture go through the machine, wait for an hour and rinse the coffee maker a few times with water before using it.
