Cleaning the bedroom

A healthy sleeping environment allows you to have a good night’s rest

A good night’s rest is only possible in a healthy sleeping environment. Frequently cleaning your bedroom is therefore an absolute must. Luckily, cleaning doesn’t have to be such a big challenge. By following these simple steps, cleaning your bedroom becomes so easy!

Daily

Every night we lose about 500 ml of water. Think about those mornings when you wake up sweating and your bed sheets feel moist. That moisture can leak into your mattress and sheets and promote the growth of dust mites and mould. Therefore, make sure to let your blanket air-dry. Also, open the windows for at least half an hour, as dust mites don’t like the cold air. Make sure this becomes a daily ritual. We also recommend leaving the windows slightly open during the night. This will create a nice draft and ensure a good night’s rest. Ventilate, ventilate, ventilate!

Quick and thorough cleaning

Cleaning a little bit every week is enough. It doesn’t have to take more than half an hour.

  • Clean up all the junk and clothing that are lying around.
  • Give all large surfaces like the window sill or the bedside tables a quick dusting.
  • Clean them with a moist cloth afterwards
  • Change the bed sheets.
  • Vacuum the floor.

Every two to three weeks you can give your bedroom a thorough cleaning. This will take a bit longer, but it’s essential for a healthy bedroom. The big difference with quick cleaning is that it’s the whole room that gets cleaned thoroughly this time!

  • Clean up all the junk and clothing that are lying around in the bedroom. Hang clean clothes back in the wardrobe and throw dirty clothes in the laundry basket.
  • Remove spider webs with a ceiling mop.
  • Dust everything and clean it with a moist cloth afterwards. Don’t forget the nooks and crannies!
  • Change the bed sheets. Air the blankets in the meantime.
  • Vacuum and mop the bedroom floor. Move the furniture and the bed to clean behind and underneath them. That’s where all the dust piles up. Don’t forget the carpets either.

Periodically

  • Turn the mattress every three months, horizontally as well as vertically. The downside becomes the upside and the far end becomes the headrest. That way, you prevent indentations and your mattress will stay fresh and clean for a longer period.
  • Clean the heating and vacuum the dust in between.
  • Clean the doors, handles and lamps with a moist cloth.
  • Tidy your wardrobe every year and clean the inside.
  • Wash the windows and mirrors.
  • Wash your curtains regularly. Put them in the washing machine or bring them to the dry cleaner’s.
  • Clean the light switches, sockets, skirting and all the other places you often overlook.
