The ultimate cleaning kit

The ultimate kit for cleaning

If you don’t like to clean, you’d better have good cleaning material. This makes cleaning a lot easier and a lot less time-consuming and frustrating. Choose quality materials and not the cheapest stuff on the market. You will need a lot of material for a well-organised household. Below you will find out what materials you really need for your ultimate cleaning kit.

Microfibre cloth
Microfibre cloths are the revolution in cleaning. The cloth has a good absorbing capacity and is electrostatically charged, which allows it to attract the dirt particles during rubbing. The dirt attaches itself directly to the fibres.

A microfibre cloth is meant to clean smooth surfaces like doors, tables, cupboards, glass and screens. It can be useful as a cleaning cloth, dusting cloth and drying cloth for glass. These cloths can go in the washing machine but the use of fabric softener is strongly discouraged as it can reduce the effectiveness of the cloth.

Normal dusting cloths & feather dusters
Dusting cloths and feather dusters are used to remove dust. The less dust there is in your house, the better the quality of the air. So make sure to dust regularly! Dusting cloths function best when they are moist. A feather duster can come in handy for places you’re unable to reach. Don’t forget to rid the dust from the dust cloth or feather duster outside.

Vacuum cleaner
A vacuum cleaner is a great invention and one of the most used appliances in the household. They’re available in many different shapes and forms these days: cordless, soundless, with or without a bag, robot vacuum cleaners, etc. Most modern vacuum cleaners have become more energy efficient, without losing out in terms of suction power. Not only can you use it to clean the floor, but it also allows you to remove dust in places that are difficult to reach or to clean the couch. If you have one with a filter, make sure to change or clean this filter regularly to maximise the lifetime of your vacuum cleaner. Don’t forget to change the dust bag as well, because a vacuum cleaner with a full dust bag uses more power and has less suction.

Tip: Vacuum a small amount of washing powder or dried flowers to spread a fresh odour around your house.

Chamois cloth
A chamois cloth is a soft rag made of chamois leather, which is mostly used to clean smooth objects and surfaces and wipe them dry. It’s as indispensable as a vacuum cleaner. Chamois leather can absorb a lot of water, which can be easily wringed out as well. Consequently, it’s often used to wash windows.

Tip: Chamois cloths stay soft and smooth when you rinse them with cleaning vinegar and water.

Duster and pan
Having a duster and pan at home can come in very handy for a variety of reasons, because it allows you to sweep up and dispose of dust, sand, crumbs, etc. You don’t always need a vacuum cleaner for that. They’re available in different varieties, i.e. with a short or long handle.

Household gloves
Always wear watertight, rubber gloves when cleaning. This protects your hands when working with solid or fluid chemicals. Since your hands get in touch with warm water all the time, the pores open. This allows hazardous substances to get into your skin, which can cause itching or rash. It’s also more hygienic to work with this type of gloves.

Scrubbing brush
A scrubbing brush must be part of your cleaning material. Because of its short, hard bristles, this kind of brush is perfect for a thorough scrubbing, allowing the dirt to come off and disappear. They are perfect for really stubborn dirt on all kinds of surfaces. You can use some soapy water with Feem Active Cleaner or scrub dry. A scrubbing brush for outside has longer and harder bristles, which serve to clean the joining between the stones.

Broom
A broom or brush can be used to sweep up dirt, dust and glass. You can then remove this using a vacuum cleaner or a dustpan to throw it in the bin. A broom with soft bristles is to be used inside the house. To sweep outside, it’s better to use a brush with stiffer bristles or a rubber brush.

Rubber brush
A rubber brush can be very useful at times. It removes cat and dog hair from carpets and is easy to clean while it’s also perfect to use outside.

Ceiling mop
A ceiling mop helps you to get dust or spider webs off the ceiling.

Mop and floor squeegee
After vacuuming or sweeping the floor it’s time to mop. For this you only need some soapy water with Feem Active Cleaner and a quality mop. Choose a mop that’s easy for you to handle. You don’t need to apply a lot of force on the squeegee. Regularly rinse the mop to avoid using the filthy water again.

Bucket
A lot of cleaning tasks require a bucket, e.g. mopping the floor, cleaning the windows, etc. In most cases, it’s sufficient to fill a bucket with water and add some Feem Active Cleaner. Afterwards, you can pour the filthy water in the toilet or down the drain. Don’t pour it in the sink as it can easily get clogged!

Sponges
A sponge is useful to remove dirt. In the past, people mostly used natural sponges but nowadays, most household sponges are made of an artificial fibre called viscose. Very stubborn dirt and dried stains are easily removed with a scouring sponge.

Throw a cheap sponge away after using it a few times. More expensive sponges can be washed in the washing machine every 3 days.

Window squeegee
A window squeegee can come in handy when cleaning your windows. It allows you to avoid dripping or stripes.

Dust buster
This is a small, handheld vacuum cleaner and is often cordless and rechargeable. It’s a handy gadget to remove loose dirt (crumbs, spilt food, etc.) quickly, so you don’t have to get the vacuum cleaner out.
